Complete the steps below prior to your New Student Orientation Experience

Step one: Placement and dual enrollment

Math

To determine your math placement, you’ll need to take the ALEKS math placement assessment. You are allowed up to three attempts, and your highest score will be used to determine your placement. If your highest score is 75 or below, please refer to the next steps.

English

For international students whose first language is not English, it is recommended to take the ENG 107 and ENG 108 sequence, which will fulfill your English composition requirement.

Some students may qualify for ENG 105, a combined course that covers the content of both ENG 101 and ENG 102, allowing students to meet both requirements with one class. The placement test requirements for ENG 105 are outlined below.

Dual enrollment

Dual enrollment credits and exam scores aren’t automatically sent to ASU — you must request that official transcripts and scores are sent to ASU Admissions.

For dual enrollment, an official transcript must be sent from each college or university you have attended. High school transcripts cannot be used to award college credit. Make sure all transcripts are sent directly to ASU Admissions. To request AP scores be sent to ASU, visit the CollegeBoard website. For other exams, learn how to request scores.

If you are currently enrolled in dual enrollment courses or have not yet taken scheduled exams, be sure to send updated transcripts and exam scores to ASU Admissions as soon as they are available.

To help your advisor create the most accurate class schedule for orientation, please email [email protected] your unofficial transcripts and/or exam scores prior to your orientation date.

Step two: Secure financial aid and scholarships

For questions related to scholarships, FAFSA, or loans, please contact ASU Financial Aid and Scholarship Services.

Step three: Attend your new student orientation session

Orientation must be completed before scheduling your first meeting with your academic advisor. During orientation, you’ll meet your advisor, go over your upcoming course schedule and get answers to any questions you may have.

Step four: Schedule an academic advising appointment (optional)

If you have additional questions after orientation, please schedule a meeting with your academic advisor. To make the most of your advising session, please ensure you’ve sent any unofficial dual enrollment transcripts and/or exam scores to [email protected] in advance.
